Although the predominant symptomology is respiratory, digestive symptoms can occur and are often overlooked in those who have contracted COVID-19. Research has found that 25% of infected patients have gastrointestinal manifestations commonly anorexia, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. Interestingly, stool analysis has revealed positive stool viral RNA in these individuals and, importantly, in 10% of infected individuals WITHOUT gastrointestinal symptoms suggesting that viral fecal shedding via fecal-oral transmission may be an additional vector. Please follow CDC guidelines and seek immediate medical attention if you feel that you have contracted COVID.
